How do you speak about and label yourself?

Words. Are. Powerful! They’re energy! “I AM” are two of the most powerful words for shaping your reality!
The things we think or say about ourselves have the power to literally shift our identity or reality to align with those things! The brain doesn’t know the difference between sarcasm, a joke, or a temporary thing we’re dealing with. Its job is to take in the information, align us to see things that match the thoughts or words we’ve expressed, and begin embodying what it thinks is truth (what we’re telling it!).
SO if you’re a habitual self-deprecating jokester, you label yourself as being “too” this or “not good enough” for that, or you identify with something like an illness or diagnosis (“I HAVE a disease or I AM sick), whether joking or not, sick or not, your mind is accepting these things as facts, as part of who you are, and not only will you probably start to feel more symptoms of the thing you’re identifying with, but you’re definitely going to be slowed down, RATHER THAN experiencing these things without identifying with them, with the intent of being free from them.
I’ll use an example from my life. Years ago, I was diagnosed with PTSD and anxiety. Both felt like huge heavy labels that made me feel so bad about myself and broken. The more I told myself I HAD and WAS these things, the more I believed it, and the worse my symptoms got. Not only that, but they became part of my identity, what I’d talk about, my life. I started to believe I was those things, I was damaged, I was defective, I HAD them. They were me. And SO much of my focus and energy went here and away from things that were empowering, growth-inspiring, or healthy. When I was able to step back and separate who I was from what I was experiencing, I was able to take care of those things, but not let them own me or be me.
Shifting from HAVING something to EXPERIENCING something is a HUGE difference and how you do the work to heal yourself – emotionally, mentally, or physically, but without dinging your self-confidence, self-worth, or changing parts of your identity in the process.
Mastering your mind - being aware of your thoughts and choosing what to think and believe is SO important. The thoughts we think on repeat become our beliefs and our beliefs dictate our decisions and actions, so being aware and intentional will keep you from sliding backward or getting off track, and can also massively propel you forward.
SO pay attention to labels you embody and things you say about yourself. It matters!
